Hotels in Brewster, NY (12 Miles South)
Brewster is the nearest town with hotel rooms. It is about 20 minutes from Thunder Ridge down Route 22. Options include a Holiday Inn Express and a handful of smaller motels along Route 6. Brewster also has the Metro North Harlem Line station, so you can park there and take the train back to the city after your trip.
Hotels in Danbury, CT (15 Miles East)
Danbury has more lodging choices along I-84: a Hilton Garden Inn, a Residence Inn, an Ethan Allen Hotel, and several budget options. The drive to Thunder Ridge is about 25 minutes. Danbury also has more dining and shopping than the immediate area around the mountain, so some families use it as a base and drive to the slopes.
Why There Is So Little Lodging at Thunder Ridge
Thunder Ridge is a day mountain. Most of its skiers drive up from Westchester, the Bronx, or Connecticut, ski for the day, and drive home. The area around the mountain is rural, residential land with farms and state forest. No resort developer has ever built here because the mountain was designed to be a quick day trip, not a destination. That is part of what makes it special, and part of why finding a place to stay requires some local knowledge.

Beyond Skiing: What Else Is Nearby

- Dykeman Farm, Fishkill Farms, Crown Maple are all within 30 minutes for farm visits, apple picking, and maple tastings.
